Senator, Rep. Hill also invited to township meeting to discuss solar permitting
LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Ed McBroom will host a town hall meeting on Thursday to discuss a recently passed energy plan that would force Michigan to have a 100% clean energy standard by 2040.
“I am hosting this town hall meeting because there has been a lot of public interest and discussion about the recently passed energy bills, sometimes called the Clean Energy Future or the Michigan Green New Deal,” said McBroom, R-Waucedah Township. “I have invited the other U.P. legislators to participate, and the public is encouraged to attend to hear about the impact of the new laws on our energy future, environment, economy, the mine, property rights and local government. Everyone is welcome, and no RSVP is required.”
The town hall meeting will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Marquette Township Hall, located at 1000 Commerce Drive in Marquette.
McBroom said he has also been invited, along with Rep. Jenn Hill, D-Marquette, to a meeting hosted by Marquette Township officials and other local area government leaders at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20.
“The focus of the township meeting is the impact and changes to the role of local governments and the new law’s impact on area electrical generation — specifically, how it makes the state the final authority on siting by allowing the Michigan Public Service Commission to overrule local zoning decisions regarding large, industrial solar, wind, and battery projects,” McBroom said.
