LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Waucedah Township, announced Friday that he will host an economic development and land-based industries roundtable in Houghton.
The formal meetings will be open to the general public and are take place on the campus of Michigan Technological University. The two-day event will occur from 9 a.m. to noon on July 25 and 26 at the Memorial Union Building, located at 1503 Townsend Drive.
McBroom, who chairs the Senate Natural Resources Committee, will meet with Upper Peninsula industry, economic, education, and community leaders to discuss the challenges and needs facing local economic development and land-based industries. Participants will go over ideas and proposed solutions on how land-based industries can partner with the technology sector for added success.
Joining McBroom will be special guests, State Sen. Ken Horn, R-Frankenmuth, who chairs the Senate Economic and Small Business Development Committee; State Sen. Dan Lauwers, R-Brockway Township, who chairs the Senate Energy and Technology Committee; State Sen. Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, who chairs the Senate Transportation, K-12 and Department of Education appropriations subcommittees; State Rep. Sara Cambensy, D-Marquette, and State Rep. Greg Markkanen, R-Hancock.
