LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Ed McBroom, R-Vulcan, released the following statement after Michigan Court of Claims Judge Michael Kelly ruled on Thursday that construction of a tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac is constitutional:
“I am grateful for Judge Kelly’s decision. The law was clearly passed in a normal and bipartisan order after years of work, and the case and attorney general ruling against it were always specious.
“The energy corridor tunnel is the logical solution to keeping Line 5 open while helping to protect the Straits of Mackinac by removing the chance of a spill or leak in the straits.
“This decision ensures millions of Michiganians’ access to a much-needed energy supply, while protecting thousands of jobs, goods and services that rely on it from reckless political gamesmanship.
“Further, it means a $500 million investment made to Michigan’s energy and communications infrastructure in a generational project.”
